Excuses Bar & Grille

2526 E. Carson St., Pittsburgh, PA - 2001

Due to the expanding popularity of the historical East Carson corridor, the owners of the restaurant wanted to renovate the building and create a façade that would function as a sign board to attract the business coming into the area. The existing building has no historical significance.

Taking cues from some historical buildings in the area, the design presents classical detailing rationalized to become back-lit light sources. These include the triglyphs in the cornice and the center flute in the square columns. The round half columns are separated by slits on each side to project light to the façade.
