The Parador Inn, B&B

939 Western Ave., Pittsburgh, PA

The original Rhodes Mansion boasts an open central stair leading to the suites on two floors. The program called for the conversion of the home into a Bed and Breakfast Inn and the renovation of the separate Ballroom to include HC toilet facilities.

To retain the central stair open and yet meet the requirements of two rated means of egress, the design adds a sprinkler system in exposed copper tubing aesthetically suited to the historical character of the home. An electronic locking system allowes egress through otherwise private spaces giving the five suites access to both means of egress.
