Restoration, Renovation, Rehab

1139 Penn Avenue

1139 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, PA - 2001

The project encompasses two requirements: the renovation of the front façade to respect URA guidelines for historical renovation and the creation of a side entrance to the new elevator lobby for access to the floors above.

Taking its cue from the yellow brick detailing on the upper floors of the building, the design recreates a brick bulkhead to receive a wood and glass storefront. The side entrance framed in the same yellow brick ties the two entrances. A stainless steel canopy gives visibility to the entrance from the main street.

Additional work includes an accessibility ramp.
